Pirate Day at Flambards

Comments About Pirate Pete

Flambards has been besieged by pirates – but fortunately very friendly ones.

The occasion was The Pirate Story, a themed event comprising prize-winning treasure hunts, a fancy dress competition, pirate yarns and entertainment in the Kingsford Venue provided by Pirate Pete.

Four generations of one family on holiday from Yorkshire turned up at the Helston attraction dressed in pirate costume. The thirteen family members, who are staying at a holiday park in Newquay, went to the trouble of buying their outfits especially and everyone – from 62 year old grandmother Wendy Parsons to 11 month old Natalie Tunstill – looked just right for their pirate part.

‘It’s my birthday so when my sister saw an advertisement for the pirate day at Flambards she thought it would be a good laugh if we all dressed up and came along,’ said Marina Allen. ‘We’re all on holiday together and we bought our costumes in Newquay. Most of us have never visited Flambards before and we’re having a great day. It’s definitely a birthday to remember.’

Stephen Larkins, from Lanner, had brought his four year old twin sons, Morgan and Harry, because they are both huge pirate fans.

‘They already had their costumes because they have just had a pirate-themed birthday party,’ said Mr Larkins. ‘When I saw that this was on I knew I had to bring them.’

Five year old Daniel Adamson, from Plymouth, won the morning’s treasure hunt prize.

‘We are staying locally and I saw this event advertised on the Flambards’ website,’ said Daniel’s dad, Neil Adamson. ‘The treasure hunt involved going around the park finding clues. It was great fun and Daniel is absolutely over the moon with the pirate chest and prizes he has won.’

Pirate Pete judged the fancy dress competition. Max Joslin, 7, from Roche, was the best dressed pirate boy, Natalie Tunstill, 11 months, from Rotherham, was the best dressed pirate girl, Marina Allen, from Worksop, was the best dressed pirate mum and Martin Booker, from Rotherham, was the best dressed pirate dad.
